Tinnitus: What Is It and Which Rockers Have It?

If you have Meniere’s Disease, then you probably know very well what it’s like to have constant ear ringing/ Tinnitus. People get it because of trauma to the inner ear like hearing loss or from an illness.

If it’s just hearing loss, a lot of times it happens when listening to something loud for long periods of time like music or work tools. Most hearing loss can be slowed down by wearing protective ear plugs that are rated for keeping out sound. But the problem is, you have to wear them. Stop making excuses because you may not notice the damage for a while. And if you have a baby & take them to church or a place that has loud noises, please protect them. They have no say on what they hear. I love my church & the worship time is like a concert every Sunday, but it bothers me when I see babies in the first few rows with no ear protection. Please take the time to take care of the little ones so that they have a longer chance of keeping Tinnitus away.

Below, is a link to an article that lists many rock stars that have this problem. The media is talking more about it since singer Huey Lewis told the world he has Meniere’s. He says playing live is so challenging that he had to stop. Who knows if it could be forever but Huey Lewis & News did just put out new studio music. Love that he is not letting Meniere’s keep him from his passion of music.

While my family & friends have helped me when my Meniere’s Disease was at it’s worst, it was learning the truth about Jesus that help me through it & gain me a purpose to take my struggles & share them with others. If only helping one person suffering from Meniere’s, then I am doing Christ’s work.

Romans 8:18

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Faith & Meniere’s Disease

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18 NIV

Many Meniere’s sufferers might be wondering why I seem to post more bible verses on page, instead of information on the disease. But believe me, it’s all connected.

  1. Because of Christ: I was able to find the right doctors that worked with me to control my Meniere’s.
  2. Because of Christ: My fears & anxiety of having another severe vertigo attack are gone. When I start to feel uncomfortable I pray.
  3. Because of Christ: I felt need to help others. God had me suffer so bad for a time so I can give advice & hope.

No matter how bad things get, just remember you are not alone in the fight with Meniere’s.

Romans 8:37

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
Romans 8:37 NLT
https://bible.com/bible/116/rom.8.37.NLT

No matter personal issue or disease we go through, we will be ok because Jesus is on our side. He will never let you fight alone. I am proof of that since there was a time where I felt alone in my struggle with Meniere’s Disease.

Romans 12:21

Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.
Romans 12:21 NLT
https://bible.com/bible/116/rom.12.21.NLT

With any illiness fear will creep in & start to take over you life. It can be harder to fight the longer a person is sick. I was like that for a long time not seeing any positive to Meniere’s Disease. But we must remind ourselves that fear is of the devil. He will creep in & try to bring you down. We can fight it by believing that Jesus is in control. That no matter how bad things can get Jesus will hold you up. And when you think He has totally forgot about you, what actually is happening is Jesus is helping you grow stronger. Keep the faith give all your fears to Jesus. I did and it was a huge relief. When I did it that is when my outlook on Meniere’s changed. I am no longer a prisoner to it but a vessel of Jesus to help others who suffer. Same can be true with all the crazy events that are happening in the U.S. The devil wants to bring us down in the world but we need to fight back fear by doing something positive. Just one random act of kindness will help a person but also will help you heart heal. It can be as simple as helping an older person in the grocery store. The more we do the more fear will not win.

John 1:5

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
John 1:5 NLT
https://bible.com/bible/116/jhn.1.5.NLT

No matter how bad an illness can be, there is a tiny light that shines at the end of the tunnel. Jesus helped me make the light bigger so that it overcame the darkness. He is always ready to hel you.

1 Peter 1:8‭-‬9

You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.
1 Peter 1:8‭-‬9 NLT
https://bible.com/bible/116/1pe.1.8-9.NLT

When my Meniere’s bothers me, I remind myself that my suffering was not even close to what Jesus did for us, willingly. While in that moment, it might feel uncomfortable, it is only temporary. By at least focusing on one positive it has helped me through aniexty moments. So find one thing & hold it tightly so you can pull it out of a box to help you. In time you may even add some more to the box.

Romans 12:12

Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
Romans 12:12 NLT
https://bible.com/bible/116/rom.12.12.NLT

When I get Meniere’s symptoms I remind myself to be patient & it will pass. Stressing out on how bad I might end up feels only triggers more symptoms. I found hope in Jesus & no matter how bad I might feel, He suffered so much more for us & He will continue to help us through anything.

Philippians 4:4

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!
Philippians 4:4 NLT
https://bible.com/bible/116/php.4.4.NLT

Even when I don’t feel well from Meniere’s I still rejoice because it will pass. I will feel better shortly & will feel stronger after it.

When it get too tough then I will listen to some Christian music & just close my eyes. Even before I found out the truth about Jesus, as a kid music was my escape. There is just something a great song that can make you feel better.
